Famous Theoretical Physicist, Stephen Hawking in his talk in Oxford University U.K. said that in less than thousand of years to come, human race will face extinction. He also added that the only way to save humanity is to continue with the research and space exploration in finding another planet that is viable for humans to live.
Earth, according to Hawking is now becoming fragile. In his one hour talk, he stated how technological advances played a role in the future degradation of the earth and the humanity. There are already events in which humanity’s existence has been threatened–nuclear wars, global warming, viruses that are genetically engineered, and a lot more.
People’s attitude towards these realities are indifferent. In the past years, global warming was said to be a hoax and a scare tactic to halt and reduce industrial productions. However, recently in a Documentary film “Before the Flood” starred by environmental awareness advocate and celebrity, Leonardo DiCaprio, it is clear that global warming is a real phenomenon. Most western countries barely feel the impact of this environmental situation but other Asian countries including India, China, Bangladesh suffer the most.
Hawking also stated that we may not feel that there is a human race extinction happening but it will add up overtime as the years go by. In the year 2009, the space exploration began with an aim to find planets that can home humans. They discovered about 2,000 candidate planets and there are more 4,500 planets that are still waiting to be confirmed if they really do exist or not.
In 1995, exoplanets was also discovered. They are called the little earth or small sized earths that also revolve around a star (sun). It was a fiction by then, but with the recent discoveries, thousands of planets have been found giving light of hope to people who once just dreamed about it.
